Not Just a Mother

Reconnecting with Your Dreams, Rediscovering Your Purpose, and Raising Children Who Believe in Endless Possibility - By Kathryn Brown

Motherhood changes everything — including our sense of self. In this heartfelt reflection, Kathryn Brown shares how rediscovering her own dreams not only transformed her as a woman, but became one of the greatest gifts she could offer her children.

Mother on beach with children

Most mornings, from the moment I open my eyes until the moment I close them at night,

I am in devotion to my three children. School lunches, breakfast, squad training, school drop-offs, grocery runs, washing, tidying, dance lessons, dinner, bath time, bedtime — and that’s just Monday.

Motherhood is wonderful, sacred even. But it can also be relentless. There are days I find myself gasping for space — not because I don’t love this life, but because I’ve realised how easily it swallows every part of me.

There’s no manual, no salary, no performance review. Just an endless to-do list and an even deeper love.

And yet, I’ve come to believe that taking time for myself — to move, to dream, to create — is not a luxury. It’s an act of devotion just as sacred as motherhood itself.

“Your dreams — the ones you hold deep inside — are not selfish. They are sacred.”

The Power of Prioritising You

After a physically demanding third pregnancy and a painfully slow recovery, I made a promise to myself: to get strong again. To build muscle, rebuild confidence, and reconnect with my own body.

At first, the idea of prioritising the gym over folding laundry or mopping the floors felt selfish. But I realised something important — the washing could wait. My well-being could not.

When I show up for myself, I model something powerful for my children: that self-care isn’t selfish, that goals matter, and that resilience grows when we keep showing up, even when it’s hard.

Our children learn through what we embody. If I want them to grow up valuing their goals and dreams, they must see me honouring mine.

The Moment You Remember Yourself

There’s a moment in motherhood — sometimes quiet, sometimes loud — when you realise you’ve been pouring so much into everyone else that you’ve lost touch with what you want.

Not in a dramatic way, but in a slow, everyday drift. One year slips into another. Routines evolve. The mirror reflects a woman who gives endlessly, yet can’t quite remember the last time she asked herself, What do I want for my life?

That question matters more than ever. Because your dreams — the ones tucked deep inside — are not selfish. They are sacred.

“Our children’s beliefs about what’s possible are shaped by what they see us model every day.”

Your Children Learn How to Dream by Watching You

As mothers, we often say we want our children to grow up confident, fulfilled, and capable of creating lives they love. But here’s the truth: they learn how to do that by watching us.

Their beliefs about what’s possible are formed by what they see. When they watch us follow our dreams, set goals, and make time for joy, we teach them something life-changing — that it’s safe to be who they are, that dreams are worth chasing, and that life expands when we believe it can.

That belief sits at the heart of my business Beautifully Abundant. My deepest dream is to raise children who know, from the very beginning, that anything is possible — and to help other mothers do the same.

Your Dreams Still Matter

Having goals and ambitions outside of motherhood isn’t a rejection of your role — it’s a celebration of your wholeness.

You are allowed to want more. Not because what you have isn’t enough, but because your soul still has more to experience. When you reconnect to what lights you up, you glow differently. You parent differently. You model a kind of completeness that tells your children, it’s okay to be more than one thing.

That’s why I created Sacred Vision — my annual workshop for mothers and women to pause, reflect, and realign. It’s a space to come home to yourself, to reconnect with your vision, and to remember the dreams waiting patiently beneath the surface of daily life.

This year’s workshop will be held on Friday, January 3rd at Stretch Yoga Holland Park or Join Online — my favourite way to begin the year. Each time, women tell me they hadn’t realised how much they needed it until they arrived. Because life gets busy. We get buried beneath the rhythm of care. And somewhere along the way, we forget to dream for ourselves.

“Our courage becomes their permission. Our consistency becomes their compass. Our dreams become their map.”

Building a Mindset of Endless Possibility

When I wrote The Abundance Code — my free downloadable guide — I wanted to give women a simple way to start shifting their beliefs around wealth, worth, and possibility. Because abundance isn’t just about money — it’s about how we see the world.

Every affirmation, every brave step, every small decision to believe in ourselves ripples outward. When we heal our limiting beliefs, we don’t just change our lives — we change what our children believe is possible for theirs.

A Final Reflection

Motherhood is one of the most profound transformations a woman can experience. But it doesn’t mean we stop being who we were — it means we expand. We grow. We evolve.

My invitation to you is simple: reconnect with your dreams. Pick them up, dust them off, and give yourself permission to imagine what could be next. Because when we embody abundance, our children learn that anything is possible.
